Do Tax Credits Make EVs Worth It? Exploring the Honda EV Tax Credit in Chicagoland
The Perks of Prologue
Honda is excited to see their first all-electrified SUV to find its way to dealers and hopefully soon, into your driveway. The 2024 Honda Prologue brings all of the perks of your typical SUV including a spacious interior, highly capable performance, and intelligence that simplifies your daily routines. However, one area where SUVs can lose some of their luster is in the fuel-consumption department. That is now a concern of the past thanks to the all-electrified 2024 Honda Prologue and its impressive 296-mile EPA estimated range. In addition, the deal gets even sweeter with recent news that consumers interested in the fully electric 2024 Honda Prologue will earn a tax credit of $7,500.00 upon your purchase! What does this mean for interested buyers? Please continue reading to learn more about how this tax credit could affect you.
The EV Tax Credit
On March 7 of this year, Honda released a statement confirming that there would be a federal tax credit awarded for newly purchased 2024 Honda Prologues. This federal credit applies to most of the 2024 Honda Prologues, specifically the vehicles that were manufactured after February 26, 2024. However, all 2024 Prologues will be included in the tax credit upon leasing. So does this credit make upgrading to an all-electric vehicle worth it? Let’s see how the numbers play out with the current MSRPs of the 2024 Honda Prologue.
- EX Trim (2WD)- MSRP $47,400 / After Credit: $39,900
- EX Trim (AWD)- MSRP $50,400 / After Credit: $42,900
- Touring Trim (2WD) - MSRP $51,700 / After Credit: $44,200
- Touring Trim (AWD)- MSRP $54,700 / After Credit: $47,200
- Elite Trim (AWD)- MSRP $57,900 / After Credit: $50,400
"Having the Honda Prologue qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit is great news for our customers," said Lance Woelfer, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Prologue is stylish, sporty, and priced right, hitting the sweet spot of the EV market and meeting the demand from our customers."
Other Honda Credits
Aside from the federal tax credit that can whittle down the price of your soon-to-be-acquired 2024 Honda Prologue, Honda offers multiple other credits for their comprehensive charging solutions as well. Upon your EV purchase, you will be asked to select a charging package to power your vehicle. These packages include an at-home charging station, a portable charging kit, or access to Honda’s certified public charging stations. For the at-home charging station, you can expect a $500 Installation credit from Honda Home Electrification and an EVgo charging credit of $100. If you select the portable charging kit you will be given a $250 installation credit from HHE and a $300 charging credit from the EVgo app. Lastly, if you choose to utilize Honda’s public charging stations you can earn a charging credit of $750 from EVgo.
Summary
Our federal government as well as Honda recognize the slight barrier to entry for the electric market and are encouraging current and new vehicle consumers to take a step in the right direction. With the federal tax credit and Honda’s multitude of home installation and charging credits that barrier just became a whole lot smaller. If you ask us, saving money, reducing your carbon footprint, and no longer being reliant on fossil fuels is more than enough for us to say the tax credits do make purchasing a new 2024 Honda Prologue worth the money and effort.
