Driving, Smartphones, and Siri

Honda Vehicle

Trying to drive safely and without distractions, while extremely important, is sometimes interrupted by the temptation to check your phone. Especially if you use your phone as a GPS navigation system, it is imperative that you choose a smart place to put your smartphone so that you can stay legally and comfortably hands-free. At Community Honda in Orland Park, we have seen some popular and useful mounting systems for smartphones, so we thought we would give our customers some ideas!

  • Mounts for windshields — This mounting system secures your phone firmly in place on your vehicles windshield using a simple suction cup. This mounting spot makes a lot of sense since it displays your phone at eye level, making it easier to see the map or directions in your phone’s navigation system. Windshield mounts are not expensive and are easy to install and uninstall.
  • Mounts for HVAC vents — Vent mounts are often overlooked, but these kinds of mounting systems usually offer user-friendly installation and also the high position of a windshield location. They also provide an unobstructed view out the windshield, which all windshield mounts can’t do. Their usefulness depends on the arrangement of your vehicle’s HVAC vents, as conventional rectangle-shaped vents with stationary slits are the optimal type for this mounting technique.
  • Mounts for dashboards — In cars with steeply angled windshields, such as the Honda Civic, a windshield mount actually sets the phone further away and makes it more difficult to see. You can use a dash mount to leave your view clear and your phone closer. And, most windshield mounts can be transformed into dash mounts by adding an adhesive disc.

Have No Fear, Siri is Here

To elevate the hands-free aspect of driving into an eyes-free experience as well, Honda is integrating Siri as an artificial assistant into the 2013 Accord’s technology features. If you use the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, Siri will be able to read and respond to texts, respond to emails, modify your calendar, inform you of weather forecasts, update you on sports results or stock trends and quotes, locate points of interest, read your turn-by-turn directions, and make phone calls through Bluetooth—all through a button on the steering wheel of the car. You will not need to look at or touch your phone at all. Now that is a smart phone, a smart car…a smart idea!

Honda’s New Fit Takes Personalization to a New Level

The Latest Fit is Built With the Needs of Women in Mind

2013 Honda Fit

Test Drive the 2013 Honda Fit at Community Honda!

The Honda Fit is a vehicle that has been designed and built with women in mind since its inception. The latest version takes this idea to a whole new level by adding new features to meet the needs of a specific clientele. Honda surveyed a number of female customers in Japan and added features to the new Fit to address their concerns. This version of the Fit is currently only available in Japan and selling well.

The new Fit was built specifically with Honda’s female Japanese customers in mind. When surveyed, the responding women stated they were concerned about the summer sun and getting dry skin from the vehicle’s air conditioning.

Honda took these concerns to heart when designing the Fit’s new windshield which cuts 99% of UV rays from reaching passengers. Vehicle designers also added a new “plasma cluster” air conditioning to keep it from drying out a person’s skin.

In addition to be available in a choice of black, brown, and white, Honda has added a pink shade to its available paint colors. Other designed tweaks include feature accents on the dashboard and seats.

The 2013 Honda Fit is available now at Community Honda. The vehicle is powered by a fuel efficient 1.5L four cylinder engine that is paired with a five speed manual transmission. A five speed automatic is available as an option.

Buyers have a choice of two trim options, the base and the Sport. The base model comes equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, and an iPod/USB audio interface. The Sport adds upgraded wheels, exterior trim and two additional speaks. A touchscreen navigation system is available as an option.

Power, Efficiency, and Technology

The new 2013 Pilot will be available in four different trims, and all will be powered by the same engine. This 3.4L V6 cranks out a hearty 250 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. All trims come with a five-speed automatic transmission standard and give the option for two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Honda has taken some innovative measures to maximize the fuel economy of the new Pilot. The engine features variable cylinder management technology, which allows it to shut off cylinders in order to improve efficiency. The Pilot also receives an aerodynamically-inspired face lift as well as low-rolling-resistance tires in an effort to get the best efficiency. The EPA estimates that 2WD models of the 2013 Pilot will give drivers up to 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.*

In order to improve the handling of the Pilot, Honda has outfitted the 2013 model with a four-wheel independent suspension system to help make a smooth ride. A variable torque management system is standard on all-wheel drive models to help you get the power to the wheels that need it when you lose traction.

Hill start assist is standard across the trims, which is a handy system which retains brake-line pressure after you take your foot off the brake when parked on steep incline. This makes it easy for you to start the car and drive away by preventing you from rolling back when you release the brake.

Community Honda Reveals the Top Five Benefits of Owning a Natural Gas Vehicle

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas

Come by Community Honda and Test Drive the Honda Civic Natural Gas Today!

With continuously rising prices of gasoline fuels and the growing concern over our environment, drivers searching for new Hondas near Orland Park are starting to choose cars that run on alternative fuels. When one mentions the word alternative fuel, most of us visit fuel concepts such as biodiesel, ethanol, or even hydrogen. At Community Honda, we are proud to also embrace one of the most promising alternative fuels: natural gas.

For this reason we are excited not only to offer a wide selection of new Hondas and used vehicles, but to also offer drivers in Orland Park the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of owning a natural gas vehicle such as the Honda Civic Natural Gas.

Benefits of Natural Gas

There are many reasons that we think natural gas is a great auto fuel source, such as:

  1. 1.    A Reliable Source of Energy – Rather than relying on imported petroleum, natural gas drivers can have confidence in the abundant supply of natural gas reserves here in the United States, and natural gas can be domestically produced right here in the United States as well.
  2. 2.    Cleanest Burning Fossil Fuel – Of all the fossil fuels, natural gas is the cleanest burning, thus reducing your carbon footprint and saving you at the pump while doing so.
  3. 3.    Less Frequent Routine Maintenance – Unlike carbon that leaves deposits in your oil requiring it to be changed often, natural gas burns clean, leaving nothing behind.
  4. 4.    Refueling is Easily Obtained – Nationwide there are over 800 natural gas stations available. For your convenience, Honda also offers natural gas drivers “Phill,” the home refueling appliance.
  5. Safer Than Gasoline Fuels – Compressed natural gas is safer than gasoline fuels as it simply dissipates harmlessly into the air in the event of an accident or leak, unlike gasoline, and it is much less likely to or cause a fire than gasoline
