The Rugged Honda Pilot Offers Versatility and Comfort

The Honda Pilot first debuted for the 2003 model year. Since then, the Pilot has been a great choice for Frankfort drivers looking for a vehicle that can move seven or eight passengers in comfort and still offer admirable all-terrain capability. Whether you’re looking for a 2013 model or you’d rather find a used Pilot, we can help you out at Community Honda in Orland Park. Here are the highlights of the ten-year history of the Pilot to help you decide which model to drive.

The First Generation

The first generation of the Honda Pilot was produced as a 2003 model starting in 2002. The Pilot started out with the same basic formula of three rows of seats, optional four-wheel drive, and a powerful V6 engine.

From 2003 to 2008, the Pilot was equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine that was rated at 240 hp and 242 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission was a five-speed automatic. Properly equipped could tow 3,500 pounds.

The Second Generation

The second generation of the Pilot began with the 2009 model year. It featured a 3.5L V6 engine that cranked out 250 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. The transmission in both front- and all-wheel drive versions was a five-speed automatic. Both the interior and exterior were dramatically updated, too; the outside was more angular and truck-like, with a bold new chrome grille, while the inside got many new amenities, including automatic tri-zone climate control, memory functions for the driver’s seat, a power tailgate, and more.

The Current Model

While the Pilot is still in its second generation, it did receive a refresh for 2012. This included a new grille, front fascia, and alloy wheels. Also in the new Pilot are tech features like an LCD control panel, USB connection, Bluetooth connectivity, and rearview camera.
