The High-Performance Honda Civic Si Sport Compact

If you’re looking for a practical and efficient compact car in the Frankfort area, but you’d also love to have a sporty fun-to-drive ride, then the 2013 Honda Civic Si is the perfect model for you. This race inspired sedan, now available at Community Honda in Orland Park, packs power and high-tech features in a stylish package. The Civic Si Sedan is both a sensible choice and a thrilling experience, and here’s a brief history of how it has evolved to this combination over the years.

The Civic Si in the 80’s

The first run of the Civic Si, which was first produced in 1984, looked basically identical to the standard Civic except for a bulge in the hood to accommodate a taller double overhead cam engine. At the time compact cars generally produced less than 100 hp, but the Civic Si cranked out 122 hp, which made it popular among performance enthusiasts. Generally the Civic has been available in hatchback, coupe, or sedan body styles, and has long been the sportiest Civic available in the United States.

The Civic Si in the 90’s

After a hiatus for most of the 90’s in the United States the Civic Si returned at the end of the decade with a high-revving 1.6L four-cylinder capable of generating 160 hp and 11 lb-ft of torque. This car received a number of changes from the standard Civic. Major differences included a fully independent suspension, larger exhaust piping, low-friction pistons, improved intake manifold, and stronger connecting rods.

The Civic Si in the 00’s

Again, the Civic Si took a hiatus for the first half of the decade, and returned to form in 2006. The most powerful Civic Si yet had a 2.0L i-VTEC engine good for 197 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque, and came with a helical limited slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission with stiffer springs than the standard Civic. It was produced in both sedan and coupe body styles.

The Civic Si in the 10’s

The current 9th generation of the Civic Si came out in 2012. The high-compression 2.4L four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine produced a muscular 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. The Si now gets a six-speed manual and a limited slip differential with all the new safety and convenience features that you would expect from Honda.
