The IIHS Names the Odyssey one of the Safety Vehicles on the Road

2015 Honda Odyssey

2015 Honda Odyssey

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released data that indicates that the Honda Odyssey is one of the safest vehicles on the road right now. The Odyssey was one of only nine vehicles that recorded zero fatalities per million registered vehicles on the road for model years 2009 to 2012. This is the first time that the IIHS has ever recorded vehicles with zero deaths in the organization’s history. Read on to learn more about these impressive and important statistics and to find out just where the Honda Odyssey fits in!

The Odyssey Among the Safest Vehicles

In its studies of mass-market vehicles from 2009 to 2012, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recorded that the industry-wide average for traffic fatalities was 28 deaths per one million, based on registered 2011 models in 2012. The good news is that industry-wide that’s a huge improvement from earlier statistics. In fact, the IIHS estimates that if safety technology remained at the levels of vehicles back in 1985, about 7,700 more people would have died in traffic accidents – luckily, that was not the case.

The statistics recorded by the IIHS show that the Honda Odyssey was among the nine top vehicles that recorded zero deaths per million registered vehicles. It’s worth noting that the Honda Pilot also narrowly missed making the mark, with just two traffic fatalities per million registered vehicle years.

David Zuby, IIHS executive vice president and chief research officer said, “The complete elimination of traffic deaths is still many decades away, and, along with vehicle improvements, getting there will require changes in road design and public policy that can help protect all road users. Still, the rise in the number of vehicles with zero driver deaths shows what’s possible.”

The Honda Odyssey currently offers features like antilock disc brakes, electronic traction and stability control, a long list of standard airbags, including side curtain airbags, and a standard rearview camera. The 2015 Honda Odyssey also received top marks in IIHS crash test ratings, earning a Good crash test score in all categories.

Top Features to Look for in the 2016 Honda Pilot

2016 Honda Pilot

2016 Honda Pilot

At Community Honda of Orland Park we’re looking forward to bringing Frankfort and Orland Park area drivers the newest 2016 Honda Pilot. This capable family crossover is getting a major overhaul for the coming model year – the first in several years – and the new Pilot should boast a ton of new high-tech and smart features. Read on to find out more!

The 2016 Honda Pilot Offers Top Features

Honda continues to innovate with smart and simple features to make your life easier. As such, the 2016 Honda Pilot drops the boxy styling of the previous version in favor of the current Honda SUV design language already on display in the Honda CR-V and the Honda HR-V. But that’s not the only thing that’s new in the next generation Honda Pilot.

A common feature on hybrid and European cars, engine start-stop offers fuel saving technology that will now come standard in the Pilot.

The new Honda Pilot also offers a sophisticated push-button shifter with wheel-mounted paddle shifters for manual shift control of the new nine-speed automatic transmission.

Expect a reversible cargo floor that offers a soft carpeted version on one side and a rubberized, easy-to-clean surface on the other, perfect for carrying dirty gear. Walk-in rear seats, meanwhile, mean that you don’t have to crawl or climb to get into the back of the vehicle. Smartly designed folding second row seats make sure that it’s easy to get to the back.

Also, although vehicles have been equipped with USB ports for a long time, the new Pilot comes with a total of five! Many vehicles’ USB ports aren’t able to charge tablets like iPads, but the Honda Pilot can do so with four of the five ports.

High-Tech Safety Features

The 2016 Honda Pilot gets updated with a bunch of new high-tech safety features. Available features include:

  • A forward collision warning system
  • A lane-keeping assistance system

OEM Parts vs. Aftermarket Parts

Auto Mechanic

Are you thinking of upgrading your vehicle with accessories? Maybe you’re planning to do some home repairs on your vehicle? Or maybe you’re just planning to take care of your regular oil change on your own? If any of these scenarios happen to be true, then you’re probably considering whether to purchase genuine OEM Honda parts and accessories or to go with aftermarket parts from other manufacturers. Let’s take a close look at the difference to see which one will be best for your needs.

You might be able to find aftermarket parts that are cheaper than OEM Honda parts, that’s true. But they likely won’t be covered by a warranty, and they might even void the warranty of your vehicle. Is that reduced peace of mind worth a few dollars?

You can easily find the right Honda OEM replacement part at the parts center at Community Honda. There’s no guarantee that another shop will have the right part for your vehicle in stock. Plus, when you choose the OEM part you know you’re getting one that will fit your vehicle.

High Quality

Honda offers a warranties on their parts and accessories, but not all aftermarket parts makers will. That indicates that Honda offers a superior, high-quality part.

Fit and Finish

When you choose an aftermarket part there’s no guarantee that the fit will be perfect or that the finish will match the rest of your vehicle. When you opt for an OEM Honda part you know that the parts will not only fit and function like they’re supposed to, but the finish and/or paint color will match the rest of your vehicle perfectly.

Vehicle Value

Using aftermarket parts decreases the value of your vehicle. That means you’ll get less if you decide to sell or trade it in. That’s something important to consider when you’re shopping for parts.

Warranty Protection

When you have Honda accessories installed at the service center at Community Honda at the time of your new vehicle purchase you get a 3-years/36,000-mile warranty on those parts. When you have labor performed here at Community Honda we stand behind our workmanship and Honda backs the parts. You don’t know what kind of guarantees you’ll find with other parts or other service shops.

Especially when it comes to collision repair, OEM parts will be the best choice, because aftermarket body panels may not have the proper crumple zones, and aftermarket parts may not be up to the same crash safety standards as OEM parts.

You can see that it’s almost always a better choice to go with the OEM parts here at the service center at Community Honda.

The 2015 Honda CR-V vs. the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

2015 Honda CR-V

2015 Honda CR-V

Are you shopping for a versatile, fuel-efficient, affordable SUV? We suggest you take a look at the 2015 Honda CR-V here at Community Honda of Orland Park. The new CR-V, currently featured in our Frankfort, IL area Honda showroom, has been redesigned for 2015 and is better than ever. There just aren’t many other SUVs out there that can match up to the CR-V. A worthy contender, however, might just be the 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Let’s take a look at how these two vehicles stack up!

More Power, Better MPG

Like the 2015 Honda CR-V, the 2015 Jeep Cherokee received a makeover for 2015, and both vehicles are available with either two-wheel or all-wheel drive. Both are also powered by a 2.4L four-cylinder engine; still, the CR-V engine delivers 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque compared to the 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque put out by the Cherokee.

If you’re looking for excellent fuel economy – and who isn’t – then you’re going to want the Honda CR-V, which offers an impressive EPA estimated 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway* on the two-wheel drive automatic model. The Jeep Cherokee, on the other hand, is rated at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Loaded with Standard Features

The 2015 Honda CR-V comes with a wide variety of comfort, convenience, and tech features, several of which are either not available or are options that you’ll have to pay extra for with the 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Some of the standard CR-V features that you won’t find with the Cherokee include:

  • A rearview camera

  • A CD player

  • An MP3 player

  • A stereo anti-theft system

In the NHTSA crash tests the 2015 Honda CR-V scored an overall five-star rating, the highest possible. The 2015 Jeep Cherokee, meanwhile earned four stars.

It’s pretty clear why the 2015 Honda CR-V was voted Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year, it’s just a winning all around vehicle. Best of all, it is priced just right. Comparably equipped, the CR-V has a price tag of $24,200, while the 2015 Jeep Cherokee will cost you $24,580.

The Honda Fit is Named a 2015 Automobile Magazine All-Star

2015 Honda Fit

2015 Honda Fit

The 2015 Honda Fit is all-new for this year, and it’s been named a 2015 Automobile Magazine All-Star. The judges and editors heaped on as much praise as could fit in the spacious cargo area of the little hatchback. Maybe the most impressive thing about the Honda Fit is the fact that it landed on a list that included vehicles like the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan, which alone costs $279,345. For reference, a totally loaded Honda Fit EX – the top level trim – costs only $18,225 out the door.

The Fit is an Automobile Magazine All-Star

Even Automobile Magazine called the 2015 Honda Fit “a case of reverse sticker shock.” That description makes sense since Automobile Magazine also called it one of the “world’s most remarkable automobiles,” and it costs less than one hundredth of the price of some other models on this impressive list.

Arthur St. Antoine of Automobile Magazine said that “to build an automobile this good for $25,000 would be an achievement. That Honda has done it at $18,000 makes the Fit a shining All-Star.”

But before you get the impression that the Honda Fit is just an incredible value – which it is – you should also be aware that it’s an incredible car. In fact, Automobile judges found it one of the most fun cars to drive in the test. Joey Capparella said, “Man, is it fun to toss into a corner and downshift with this row-your-own gearbox. And there’s usable power in all six gears.”

The Honda Fit is a car for everyone. Not only does it have fun-to-drive dynamics, an easy-to-swallow price, and plenty of high tech features, but the Fit is also a leader when it comes to fuel economy. It earns an EPA estimate of up to 41 mpg on the highway*. Plus, the Fit has as much cargo space as many compact crossovers on the market with up to 52.7 cubic feet with the Magic Seats folded down.

Capparella went on to say, “I recommend the Fit to nearly everyone who asks me for car advice.”

Honda Wins Three 2015 ALG Residual Value Awards

2015 Honda CR-V

2015 Honda CR-V

Here at Community Honda of Orland Park, we’re happy to announce that three different Honda vehicles have been awarded 2015 ALG Residual Value awards. Every year ALG gives out awards for vehicles that hold their value best. That’s what Honda is especially good at, thanks to industry-leading reliability, efficiency, and resale value. Read on to learn about the three models that were picked!

ALG Residual Value Awards Honors Honda

Every year the ALG Residual Value awards recognize the vehicles predicted to maintain the most value after three years. This year, three ALG Residual Value Awards have honored Honda. ALG recognized winners in many categories, and the 2015 Honda Fit won for subcompact car, the 2015 Honda CR-V won in compact utility vehicle, and the 2015 Honda Odyssey won the minivan category.

“One of Honda’s key priorities is to offer our customers vehicles that hold their value throughout the ownership experience,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of Honda. “Our brand is committed to retail sales leadership through top-quality, well-equipped vehicles, and that sets Honda apart in a way that benefits our customers now and in the years to come.”

ALG determines the winners of the Residual Value awards after a long process of study and analysis. The judges take into account historical vehicle performance as well as industry trends. Other factors like pricing and marketing strategies, public demand, and vehicle quality also play into the Residual Value awards.

Honda has historically performed well in the ALG residual value awards and has routinely won multiple segments and on more than one occasion the overall mainstream brand award from ALG.

All Season Tires vs. Winter Tires

Winter Tires

Are you pondering the switch over to a set of dedicated winter tires before the snow really starts to fly? It could be worth it! Here at Community Honda of Orland Park, the leading Orland Park and Frankfort area Honda dealer, we know that getting a set of dedicated winter tires can certainly make the icy and snowy winter roads a little more manageable. So what’s the difference between winter tires and the standard all-season tires you find on most vehicles? Read on to find out!

The Difference Between All-Season and Winter Tires

All-season tires, which are standard equipment on everything but high-performance sports cars, are formulated to handle just about any driving conditions. That means they’re good for wet roads, dry roads, gravel roads, and maybe even a little bit of snow. They’re meant to perform well in the majority of conditions, at normal temperatures.

Winter tires are different because they are specially formulated from a softer compound to provide more grip in temperatures that stay below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. They also usually have a more aggressive tread pattern to handle loose and soft snow.

Do you Need Winter Tires?

Here in the Chicagoland area we can expect snow and cold each year. That’s why if you drive in the wintertime, we recommend that you get snow tires. Not only will they provide improved traction and safety, but changing your tires once a year prolongs the performance and life of your regular tires.

Even if you have all wheel drive it doesn’t mean you don’t need snow tires – in fact, the best way to get the most of out your all wheel drive system is to maximize the performance of your tires! The tire is, after all, the only part of the vehicle that should ever touch the ground. A lot is riding on your tires – literally – so make sure they can do their job well.

Visit Community Honda of Orland Park Today

We are your Chicago and Frankfort area Honda dealership, here at 8340 W. 159th St. in Orland Park, IL and we can help you install the snow tires that are right for your vehicle before the worst of winter weather arrives.
