The 2016 Honda Pilot is a Top Safety Pick+

2016 Honda Pilot

2016 Honda Pilot

The 2016 Honda Pilot is currently available here at Community Honda of Orland Park, and it has been officially rated as one of the safest vehicles on the road today. The new model has earned the best possible Top Safety Pick+ ranking from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). To achieve this ranking, a vehicle must not only score well in crash tests but it must also be available with sophisticated collision prevention technology to stop accidents before they even happen. Of course, the Honda Pilot succeeded at all tests and is currently available with the Honda Sensing package.

A Top Safety Pick+

The 2016 Honda Pilot, redesigned for the 2016 model year, earned the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ ranking. The Honda Pilot must be equipped with the Honda Sensing package – standard on the Touring trim level and optional on all other models – to earn the plus. The Top Safety Pick+ ranking requires that a vehicle score a best possible “Good” rating in the moderate overlap front, roof strength, side, and seatbelt and head restraints tests, with at least an “Acceptable” rating in the small front overlap test and at least an “Advanced” in the Front Collision Prevention Category.

The Honda Pilot actually goes above and beyond, scoring the “Good” ranking in all crash tests and a “Superior” in the Front Collision Prevention category when equipped with the Honda Sensing system. The Honda Sensing system successfully stopped the car using automatic braking systems from 12 mph and reduced the vehicle’s speed by half from 25 mph in the IIHS testing, meaning that it would avoid an accident in the real world from those speeds. Honda Sensing includes both front collision warning and automatic collision prevention braking, adaptive cruise control, and a lane departure warning and prevention system.

Honda Plans to Cut Emissions by 50 Percent

American RoadsHonda has made a bold statement. The automaker is planning to cut emissions by half in the next decade, and that means more than just putting efficient vehicles on the road. The new plan is called Green Path, and it means that the company will be making huge sustainability improvements throughout the entire manufacturing process. Find out below how Honda is planning to clean up its act and continue to be one of the greenest automakers in the world!

The Honda Green Path

Honda has a plan to make the whole automotive manufacturing process cleaner. The new initiative focuses on a $210 million investment in the Marysville, Ohio manufacturing plant, which happens to be the largest Honda plant in North America. This will help Honda achieve a voluntary goal of 50 percent emissions reduction by 2050, compared to 2000 levels. This makes Honda the only automaker to voluntarily target such dramatic emissions reductions.

The new plan, called Green Path, aims to reduce the use of what Honda calls “Substances of Concern” in the manufacturing process and scarce natural resources in the production of vehicles. It also plans to significantly reduce the amount of water used in the manufacturing process, as well as C02 emissions caused by transportation of vehicles from plants to dealers. It will also expand the company’s Green Dealer program which incentivizes dealerships that adopt environmentally friendly practices.

“We work every day on these issues. But there’s much more automakers can do beyond fuel efficiency to reduce our environmental impact by adopting energy efficiency and renewable energy throughout our operations,” said Ryan Harty, manager of the Honda Environmental Business Development Office.

The Green Path initiative isn’t just about emissions, however. It’s also about creating cars that are environmentally friendly in every way – from paint to transportation to production, and everything in between.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a whole lot of HR-V compact crossovers on the road in the very near future.”

Cars.com senior editor Mike Hanley said that the 2016 Honda HR-V has “one of the roomiest – and most configurable – interiors in the class.”

Automobile Magazine

Honda Pilot Fuel Economy Ratings Released

2016 Honda Pilot

2016 Honda Pilot

The 2016 Honda Pilot should be a huge hit here at Community Honda of Orland Park, at least partially because of its improved fuel economy estimates when compared to the previous model. It also boasts some of the best efficiency numbers in the three-row crossover class thanks to a new engine, new transmissions, and new engineering. Curious about how much gas you can save over your current crossover by purchasing the new Honda Pilot? Find out below!

2016 Honda Pilot Fuel Economy Estimates

The 2016 Honda Pilot is an exceptionally efficient three-row crossover thanks to a new Earth Dreams direct injection V6 engine, a new engine start-stop feature that turns off the engine when stopped to save fuel, and a new available nine-speed automatic transmission in the Touring and Elite models. Here are the fuel economy estimates direct from the Environmental Protection Agency.

  • The base EX Pilot with front-wheel drive achieves 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway/22 mpg combined with six-speed transmission.*
  • All-wheel drive drops those numbers to 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.
  • The Touring and Elite trims with a nine-speed automatic and front-wheel drive achieve 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway/23 mpg combined.
  • Add all-wheel drive to the nine-speed and numbers fall to 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway/22 mpg combined.

All models get a 3.5L V6 engine that cranks out 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. This engine utilizes cylinder deactivation to save fuel – this feature shuts off two of the cylinders during light loads and runs on the remaining four. It also uses the Honda exclusive i-VTEC variable valve timing. Honda also managed to shave 300 pounds off the new generation version when compared to the outgoing model.

The new Honda Pilot will beat out almost every other three-row crossover when it comes to fuel economy. It’s better than every non-hybrid version of the Toyota Highlander, the Chevy Traverse, and the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Consumer Reports Names the Honda CR-V and Pilot the Best Used SUVs Under $10k

2012 Honda Pilot

2012 Honda Pilot

If you’re shopping for a used vehicle in the Frankfort area, then you had better come visit Community Honda of Orland Park. We have an extensive selection of the best used vehicles around, and, according to Consumer Reports, the Honda CR-V and the Honda Pilot should be at the top of your list of used SUVs if you’re in the market for a new vehicle for your family. These reliable, high-quality crossovers provide all the versatility and utility that Chicagoland drivers want.

CR-V and Pilot Named Top Used Buys Under $10k

Consumer Reports has advocated for used cars for a long time, and to make choosing the right one easy, the publication has compiled a list of the top choices in every segment, at a variety of price points.

“Every vehicle on this list performed well in our tests when it was new and has had above-average reliability for the model years shown, based on our latest Annual Auto Survey,” said Consumer Reports. “Each also came standard with electronic stability control (ESC), unless otherwise noted. Consider these the used cars we’d recommend to our family and friends.”

Luckily, you don’t have to be family or friends of Consumer Reports editors to get the scoop. When it comes to used SUVs under $10,000, Consumer Reports chooses the Honda CR-V and the Honda Pilot. “Standard ESC and curtain air bags, combined with near-minivan levels of space, make the reliable CR-V a can’t-miss prospect,” said Consumer Reports. “For even more room, check out the eight-seat Honda Pilot with its smooth V6 acceleration and carlike handling.”

You might be curious to know what other cars landed on the Consumer Reports best used cars list – and we’ll tell you that many of them were made by Honda. Late Model Honda Civic and Honda Accord models were praised in the Small Car and Sedan segment priced at $15,000 to $20,000, while four different Acura models, the Honda luxury brand, made the list. So make sure you look for these high-quality used cars here at Community Honda of Orland Park.

The IIHS Names the Odyssey one of the Safety Vehicles on the Road

2015 Honda Odyssey

2015 Honda Odyssey

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released data that indicates that the Honda Odyssey is one of the safest vehicles on the road right now. The Odyssey was one of only nine vehicles that recorded zero fatalities per million registered vehicles on the road for model years 2009 to 2012. This is the first time that the IIHS has ever recorded vehicles with zero deaths in the organization’s history. Read on to learn more about these impressive and important statistics and to find out just where the Honda Odyssey fits in!

The Odyssey Among the Safest Vehicles

In its studies of mass-market vehicles from 2009 to 2012, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recorded that the industry-wide average for traffic fatalities was 28 deaths per one million, based on registered 2011 models in 2012. The good news is that industry-wide that’s a huge improvement from earlier statistics. In fact, the IIHS estimates that if safety technology remained at the levels of vehicles back in 1985, about 7,700 more people would have died in traffic accidents – luckily, that was not the case.

The statistics recorded by the IIHS show that the Honda Odyssey was among the nine top vehicles that recorded zero deaths per million registered vehicles. It’s worth noting that the Honda Pilot also narrowly missed making the mark, with just two traffic fatalities per million registered vehicle years.

David Zuby, IIHS executive vice president and chief research officer said, “The complete elimination of traffic deaths is still many decades away, and, along with vehicle improvements, getting there will require changes in road design and public policy that can help protect all road users. Still, the rise in the number of vehicles with zero driver deaths shows what’s possible.”

The Honda Odyssey currently offers features like antilock disc brakes, electronic traction and stability control, a long list of standard airbags, including side curtain airbags, and a standard rearview camera. The 2015 Honda Odyssey also received top marks in IIHS crash test ratings, earning a Good crash test score in all categories.
