The 2017 Honda Ridgeline Upgrades the Truck Bed With Innovative Features

2017 Honda Ridgeline

When the Honda Ridgeline debuted in its first generation in 2005 one of the standout features of the pickup was the under-bed trunk, which provided secure, out-of-sight storage. Another important feature that the Ridgeline offered then was a composite molded bed with built-in tie-down hooks. The new 2017 Honda Ridgeline, which debuted at the North American International Auto Show recently, will retain those features, and it will get some important new innovations. Read on to learn more!

How to Improve the Truck Bed

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline isn’t just about offering towing and hauling capacity – it’s also going to improve your tailgate party. That’s because the whole truck bed can effectively act as a speaker. While the Ridgeline won’t offer actual speakers in the truck bed, six exciters mounted inside the bed can vibrate the bed, producing crystal clear sound – even if you’ve got a load of lumber or gravel in the back.

“Now, you can’t see it, there are no speakers to get bashed and scraped when you’re hauling mulch or lumber. But you can hear it,” said John Mendel, Executive Vice President for American Honda, about the new Ridgeline. “Especially with its 540-watt audio system, it’s good old-fashioned Honda engineering magic.”

Another important feature that will go a long way to improving your tailgate party? The Ridgeline gets a 400-watt AC power outlet in the bed that can provide power for tools or electronics. Plus, that under-bed trunk that the Ridgeline is famous for offers a drain plug in the bottom, so you might as well use it as an ice box for your food or frosty beverages. It’s easy to hose out afterward.

The Ridgeline should go on sale here at Community Honda of Orland Park, as soon as this summer. Honda says that the Ridgeline will target both best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-class acceleration figures.

What You Need to Know About the All-New 2017 Honda Ridgeline

2017 Honda Ridgeline

2017 Honda Ridgeline

The Honda Ridgeline, the only Honda pickup offering, has been on hiatus for a couple of years while the new model was developed. Now Honda has unveiled the new generation of the Honda Ridgeline at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We’re here to fill you in on the details of the new 2017 Honda Ridgeline and what you can expect here in Frankfort and Orland Park, IL, so read on if you’re thinking a midsize Honda pickup truck is just what you need.

The Details of the New Honda Ridgeline

The new 2017 Honda Ridgeline has been dramatically reengineered and redesigned for the new model year. The vehicle shares its platform with the Honda Pilot, so it will be provided in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, making it the only available front-wheel drive pickup in North America.

The Ridgeline will also get the same 3.5L V6 engine from the Honda Pilot. Specifications have yet to be released, but expect at least as much output as the Pilot, which makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Honda says that the Ridgeline will be able to pull more than the Pilot, which has a maximum towing rating of 5,000 pounds, but specifics are unavailable at this time.

The Ridgeline will continue to get the unique under-bed trunk space for secure, hidden storage. Additionally, the new Ridgeline will offer four feet of space between the wheel wells in the bed – it will be the only midsize truck to do so – so 4-foot sheets of drywall will lay flat. That’s a huge deal for contractors or even DIY-ers.

Honda is aiming at best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-class acceleration figures. You can expect something in the range of 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway* – that’s what the Pilot earns with six-speed automatic transmission, according to EPA estimates.

Finally, the Ridgeline will offer the high-tech Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies, making it one of the only pickups on the road with features like automatic forward collision prevention braking.
