The 2016 Honda Fit and the 2016 Ford Fiesta are both exciting subcompact SUVs that pack big features and big versatility into small packages. They’re both exceptionally fun to drive, very efficient, and loaded with the latest tech. So which one is the right vehicle for you here in the Frankfort and Orland Park, IL area? You can find out more about how these two little cars stack up side by side below!

Fuel Economy

We know that fuel economy is a top priority for anybody comparing subcompact hatchbacks. So how do these two compare? You’ll find that the 2016 Ford Fiesta receives a 28 mpg city/36 mpg highway/31 mpg combined estimate from the EPA in the base model. Meanwhile, the 2016 Honda Fit LX with continuously variable transmission earns a much better EPA rating of up to 33 mpg city/41 mpg highway/36 mpg combined*. You don’t pay for that fuel economy with performance, however. The Fit makes 130 hp, while the base Fiesta only makes 120 hp.

Safety Scores

The 2016 Honda Fit earned the Top Safety Pick honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). That’s better than the 2016 Ford Fiesta did, with its second worst “Marginal” small overlap front crash test score in IIHS testing.

In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing, the Honda Fit received the best five-star overall crash test rating, as well as a five-star rating in the front and side crash tests. Full ratings for the Fiesta haven’t been rolled out yet, but thus far it’s only received four-star ratings in front and rollover tests. And, if the 2015 model’s two-star side crash rating is any indication, the 2016 Ford Fiesta isn’t likely to put up any scores to compete with the Honda Fit.

Space

The 2016 Honda Fit has up to 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats in place, while the 2016 Ford Fiesta only offers up to 14.9 cubic feet with seats in place. With the rear seats folded down, the Honda Fit has room for up to 52.7 cubic feet of cargo, while the Fiesta only offers 25.4 cubic feet. The Fit also offers a lot more passenger space, with 95.7 cubic feet, compared to the 85.1 cubic feet in the Fiesta.
