The 2016 Chrysler 200 and the 2016 Honda Accord are both midsize sedans that might have caught your eye this year in the Frankfort and Orland Park, IL area. They both provide admirable fuel economy, performance, safety scores, and high-tech features. This competitive class is crowded with excellent options, and these are two of them. So which one do you choose?

Efficiency and Performance

There’s not a lot of variation in engine choice in this segment – almost every model offers a 2.4L four-cylinder engine in the base model, and the 2016 Chrysler 200 and 2016 Honda Accord aren’t any different.

With its 2.4L engine, the Chrysler 200 earned a respectable 23 mpg city/36 mpg highway/28 mpg combined estimate from the EPA with front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. The Chrysler 200 cranks out 184 hp and 173 lb-ft of torque with its four-cylinder.

Meanwhile, the 2016 Honda Accord yields a superior fuel economy estimate from the EPA at 27 mpg city/37 mpg highway/31 mpg combined* with continuously variable transmission. Its four-cylinder also generates more power at 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque.

You can see that the Honda Accord provides more power and better fuel economy than the Chrysler 200.

Safety

We know that safety it is a top priority, and neither of these models come up short. Both earned ‘Good’ ratings in all categories of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, including crash tests and the front collision prevention category. In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing, the 2016 Honda Accord again scored highly with a five-star overall rating. The 2016 Chrysler 200 has not been rated overall. In rollover safety, however, it only received a four-star rating while the Accord won the five-star rating.

Features and Options

While the 2016 Chrysler 200 might claim to be the more luxurious model, you’ll find that’s not the case. The 2016 Honda Accord is actually the vehicle that comes standard with much of the equipment you likely expect, such as:

  • Dual zone automatic climate control
  • A rearview camera
  • Floor mats
  • A CD player
  • A stereo anti-theft system
  • Folding side mirrors
  • Alloy wheels
  • A convenient hill start assist system that prevents any backward roll when stopped on a hill

You can look all day at the Chrysler 200 features list and you won’t find a single one of those features in the base model.
