2015 Honda Accord Sedan 800

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata and the 2015 Honda Accord are probably both on your to-drive list if a midsize family sedan is in your future. While both of these sedans might make compelling choices for drivers here in Frankfort and Orland Park, IL, they’re far from the same car. So how do they actually stack up when you put them side by side? Let’s take a closer look!

Efficiency and Performance

A top priority for everybody these days is fuel economy. So how do these sedans compare?

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata gets an EPA rating of 25 mpg city/37 mpg highway/29 mpg combined with its four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. That’s pretty good – better than most cars in the class.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Honda Accord with a 2.4L four-cylinder and continuously variable transmission yields an EPA estimate of 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway/31 mpg combined*. While the Honda Accord is one off the highway estimate of the Sonata, it thoroughly beats the Sonata in the city and combined cycle, which should mean that the Accord will burn less gas overall.

The engines under the hood of the Accord also make slightly more power than those under the hood of the Sonata.

In this year’s safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2015 Honda Accord bested the 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a Good rating in the small front overlap test, while the Sonata only received the Acceptable rating.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had similar results in its crash tests. While the Sonata and the Accord both received five-star overall ratings, they didn’t score the same when it came to individual tests: the Accord beat the Sonata in the Rollover safety test and boasted more recommended technologies, including a standard rearview camera.
