2015 Honda Accord Coupe

Drivers searching for a midsize car are probably already comparing the 2015 Honda Accord Coupe and the 2015 Chevy Malibu. While both might make a good choice for drivers here in the Orland Park and Frankfort, IL area, there are no doubt some major differences. So which one will be best for you? Read on to find out more!

Fuel Economy and Performance

We’re sure that many drivers put fuel economy close to the top of their priorities when shopping for a new car. When you compare the two-door 2015 Honda Accord Coupe with continuously variable transmission to the four-door 2015 Chevy Malibu with six-speed automatic transmission you find that they are both rated at 29 mpg combined, based on EPA estimates*.

However, if you want to consider the four-door Accord Sedan you’ll find a superior rating of 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway/31 mpg combined*. Or, you’re interested in a Hybrid, you’ll find that the 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid is rated at 47 mpg combined**. The Malibu offers no hybrid model.

If you’re more interested in power than performance, you’ll be looking at the upgrade options. The Accord can come with a muscular 3.5L V6 engine that cranks out 278 hp and 256 lb-ft of torque. That model is rated by the EPA at 21 mpg city/34 mpg highway/26 mpg combined; meanwhile, the Malibu upgrade option is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that puts out 259 hp and is rated by the EPA at only 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway/24 mpg combined*.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn’t rate these vehicles quite equally. While the 2015 Honda Accord Coupe earned five stars in all tests, the 2015 Chevy Malibu gets only four stars in the rollover safety test. The Accord Coupe also gets a rearview camera standard, a feature that’s lacking on the Malibu.
