2013 Honda Fit 5 Door

Sporty and efficient hatchbacks are all the rage at Community Honda in Orland Park these days. We’re big fans of the 2013 Honda Fit, which can carry a wagonload of cargo, seat four comfortably, and provides a fun, sporty ride. The Fit is not the only vehicle in the hatchback party, however, and the Toyota Yaris is another contender in the segment. Let’s see how these two hip little hatchbacks stack up.

Utility and Comfort

You might assume that a small car can’t carry much cargo, but in the case of the new Honda Fit you get a massive maximum cargo volume of 20.6 cubic feet behind the rear seat, while the Yaris only has 15.3. Additionally, the Fit has a total of 90.8 cubic feet of passenger volume while the Yaris only has 84.4. You can pack more people more comfortably with more luggage in the Fit than in the Yaris — that’s a huge plus for families.

To top it off, the Fit has a split second row bench seat that folds down into the floor to maximize cargo space; that feature isn’t present in the Yaris. Some other comfort and convenience features that the Fit has but the Yaris doesn’t are:

  • Power windows
  • Power locks
  • Cruise control
  • An available leather-wrapped telescopic steering wheel

Powertrain and Performance

Just because you want a utilitarian small hatchback doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. The Fit packs more power under the hood with 117 hp and 106 lb-ft of torque, which bests the Toyota sedan’s 106 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque. Despite the added power the Fit and Yaris get very similar mileage ratings, so you might as well opt for the more thrilling ride!
